This story must be prefaced with the following:
A couple of nights ago, Daddy was at the computer. Mommy and I were already in bed. All of a sudden, he sees a shadow of something on the desk. Due to the size, his first thought was that it might be a mouse. Then further evidence led him to believe it was a giant bug. He couldn't find it, and went upstairs when he was finished. Mommy was of course FREAKED out at the thought of a giant bug hanging out in the office.
Fast forward to this morning.
Mommy's lounging on the couch, and catches a glimpse of me. I seem to have mud all over my pants. She comes over to me to inspect. Hmm. It doesn't really look like mud, but it doesn't really look like anything else. Then she notices a very long insect leg on the floor. She looks at my mud clump again. It's a squashed bug. It's a giant squashed bug. Green bug guts are all over my pink pants. She looks around for any signs of bug remnants, and finds another giant bug leg in another part of the dining room.
We get some scary basement bugs that occasionally find their way upstairs. Normally via the cats. The most dreaded of these is the scallywag (the silver colored milipede type icky bugs that Mommy HATES). Second to this is the mysterious giant jumping bug - it sort of looks like a stinkbug, but it's not, and it jumps really high. *shudder*
Here are the conclusions Mommy drew:
1. the bug was already dead
1a. the bug was really big, but indiscernable as to its type. the legs were like a cricket, but the bug seemed bigger than that. maybe it was the mysterious jumping bug. *shudder*
2. i sat on it.
3. after sitting on it, i apparently log rolled back and forth over the dead bug so as to smear guts all over both pant legs.
4. Mommy is thanking Jesus that I sat on it and didn't try to eat it.
AAAAAHHHHHH!!!!!
Mommy changed my pants too. *shudder*

Ewww! I'm so glad to know she didn't try to eat it. At first that's what I thought you were going to say. Yuck!
The "jumpy" bugs that kind of look like crickets and get REALLY big are "camel crickets" according to Dave's research. They are harmless in that they don't bite or bring disease, but they do generally freak me out, b/c they jump SO high and far. They are in our basement too. I suppose that Willow had her revenge on that particular bug, by smushing it beyond recognition.
